 | An attack on a popular Chinese science writer known for exposing academic fraud has caused an uproar online.
Fang Zhouzi told police he was attacked by two men on a Beijing street at about 5 p.m. Sunday, after he had finished a television interview near his home, the Shijingshan branch of the Beijing police said in a statement.
One attacker sprayed a pungent liquid into Fang's face while the other hit his waist with a hammer, Fang said.

| The legislature of southwest China's Guizhou Province on Monday appointed Zhao Kezhi the acting governor of the province.
The appointment was made at the 17th session of the Standing Committee of the 11th Guizhou Provincial People's Congress.

| A Chinese navy hospital ship will leave China for the Gulf of Aden on Sept. 1 to offer medical services to Chinese escort missions in the waters, the Chinese Defense Ministry said here Monday.
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) hospital ship Peace Ark will also provide medical services to officers and soldiers of other countries conducting anti-piracy activities in the waters.
The ship will also call at Djibouti, Kenya, Tanzania, the Seychelles and Bangladesh.
